2024 Countdown: Google & Yahoo New Sender Requirements

Effective February 1, 2024, Google and Yahoo will enforce stringent email authentication standards, which have long been recognized as paramount for email security. This shift from recommendations to mandated standards emphasizes the pivotal role of email authentication in marketing strategies. It's not merely about compliance; it's about fostering trust with inbox providers to ensure seamless communication with your subscribers.

These requirements are customer-centric, enhancing your deliverability. Chances are, your existing practices already align with some of these conditions.


Organizations lacking proper email authentication may encounter disruptions in email delivery. While these changes take effect on February 1st, 2024, preparation for DMARC necessitates proactive measures involving data analysis and report assessment.


Key Requirements Include:

All Senders – Less than 5000 emails per day

Bulk Senders – More than 5000 emails per day

  1. Authenticate your mail

  • Implement SPF or DKIM at a minimum

  1. Have a valid forward and reverse DNS record for your sending IPs

  2. Keep spam complaint rates low, below 0.3%

  3. Comply with RFCs 5321 and 5322

  4. Can't impersonate Gmail in "From" header

  5. Use ARC authentication for forwarded email

  6. TLS required for inbound email

  1. Authenticate your mail

  • Implement both SPF and DKIM

  • Valid DMARC policy with at least p=none

  • DMARC must pass

  1. Have a valid forward and reverse DNS record for your sending IPs

  2. Keep spam complaint rates low below 0.3%

  3. Comply with RFCs 5321 and 5322

  4. Can't impersonate Gmail in "From" header

  5. Use ARC authentication for forwarded email

  6. TLS required for inbound email

  7. Set up one-click unsubscribe in header and body
